MAY 2010........Morning Gerald and Margaret,

Just to let you know our new ladies have settled well in their new home and are already great friends with our old girls and Harry the cockerel. After only three weeks with us 9/10 are already laying!

They have very much made themselves part of the family and having found the dog flap are frequent visitors to our kitchen, family room, hallway - actually anywhere a door is open!!

They are fantastic fun and a huge source of hilarity particularly when the come running down to meet us and follow us about. They are very helpful when gardening - if you don't want any worms in your flower bed that is!!

Thank you so much for all your advice and help and rest assured the ladies are safe and very much loved in their new home.

Our six hens have settled in very Quickly  and some have started to lay already, roaming all around the Garden . The hens are getting on with both the Dogs and cats.

The Isa's are as frendly as I remember when I worked with them many years ago, when I had 4000 Isa's and 6000 Ross Brown hens to look after.

I apreciated the advice that you gave me about looking after free range hens.

MAY 2010.......Hi guys    Well our little ladies have settled in just fine, they don’t mind the dogs or the cats for that matter and are exceptionally friendly.  So much so they run to the hen compound door whenever you get near it and mill about our feet quite happily no matter what we’re doing. Debs has happily named them all and they have leg tags with their names on them (Dandelion, Burdock, Rosie and Brenda – yes that’s right we have a chicken named Brenda)

Just a wee update on the latest four lasses to our hen family. (CHUFFED WITH INITIAL ISA WARRENS, DECIDED TO ADD A FEW MORE) 

They have settled in after some arguments over the pecking order and now all 10 are doing great with nine eggs each day. 

My wife wasn't that upset that her daughters had got her chickens instead of flowers on mothers day and the eggs make up for it!!!

I'd decided to get hens and was delighted when I found Gerald and Margaret's website.

As a novice henkeeper I was able to read lots of very helpful information there and ask some questions by email before going ahead and ordering our hens.

We went to pick them up and bought all the equipment we needed at the same time.

Gerald and Margaret both spent ages with us talking about how to look after our hens.

We had a lovely time there and we are very happy with our hens too. I've been in touch with Gerald since to ask some more questions.

They definitely offer a great service!

Thank you very much for all your help and advice, prior to buying our 4 lovely chickens and for all your help afterwards too. 

Kiev, Jess, Rosie & Scooby have settled in great and 2 weeks after getting them (29/09/09) we got our first egg.  Now all the girls are laying and the kids love checking to see how many. 

They are so friendly and if I go into the garden they all chat away and love to be stroked.  Its so much fun watching them roam around the garden.  They each have their own personality, Kiev is slightly bigger and nosy.  Scooby laid the first egg.  Jess is playful and Rosie likes to escape if you leave the door open too long. 

We are so glad we made the decision to have chickens and have been recommending it to our friends.  Once again we would like to thank you for our wonderful additions to our family.

We've had them three weeks now and we got our first egg from Betty who took herself off to the nesting box and minutes later laid her egg.

I would recommend them to anyone. Chooks are quirky and nosy pets that also keep you supplied with eggs. Cant believe it has taken us this long to discover them.

Just to let you know that the four girls (Clara, Charlotte, Harriet and Henrietta) have settled in really well into their new home.

They are so tame and Charlotte has already jumped up onto our knees to be stroked, best of all Clara produced our very first egg this morning (sun)

They already have their own personalities (Charlotte is so mischievous and definitely the boss!)and they are such fun to watch, even if we sit in the garden on our chairs they never go far from us. They are already firmly part of  the family.

The Seven Girls have settled in great, as soon as Martin opened the box last Friday (1/5/09) there was an egg, and they have all laid each day since they arrived. They are very nosy and come up to the wire every time someone comes into the garden.. they even come up to us in the coop to get petted,,never thought I would pet a chicken!!

They are great fun to watch. No doubt we will add some more as time goes on...we were only going to buy 4 at first!!! I nickname them the 7 dwarfs!!!

Hello from Forres, just thought I would drop you a line to update you on the progress of my 6 lovely hens.  We have had them now for some time and after what seemed like ages, I now know that it was just their growing time, they have settled into a good steady laying routine with 5/6 eggs per day, which my children, me and my husband are delighted about, not to mention the neighbours who are very happy to buy eggs from me that are from 'Happy Hens' and have zero carbon foot print.
 
Thank you so much for all your help and support before and after buying the 'girls'.  It's very comforting to know that you are there to help me with queries even now. 
 
Getting the hens was a great decision and one that I am very glad I made. They are in a large run outside my kitchen window, doing the washing up has never been so interesting and the greeting I get each time I come out the back door is fab.  I am also very pleased to have made the decision to get 6 rather than 4, it is absolutely no extra work, just lots more lovely eggs, win,win.

Subject: Testimonial....05 : 04 : 09 Hello Gerald and Margaret, Almost two years ago we bought 4 young hens from  you.  You suggestion was a good idea that we let them grow up with us so that they would know us and be more friendly.  Since we got the girls we have usually have 4 eggs a day.  Even during the winter months they were consistently producing eggs. We keep them in a chicken house but they also have 1/3 acre to roam around in.  We've found that they don't eat much bird food at all in the summer as they help themselves to slugs, worms, etc.  I always give the chickens vegetable scraps etc.  One bonus, we hadn't thought of about owning our hens is that they are great 'weeding' borders in the winter.  I also put the garden rubbish in a pile and they work their way through it and I have just a pile of soil at the end.  We wouldn't be without our hens and I'm only sorry we didn't keep hens years ago.  Thank you for helping us with our initial worries.  We feel like 'old hands' now. If you are reading this while still deciding "will we-won't we?"...then can I just say...Do It ! :). We have a medium sized garden and the 3 hens are just in their element with no visible carnage on the garden so far !. They are fascinating little creatures to watch who seem to enjoy some company...even the dog has made friends!

Just a wee note to let you know how we are getting on. Hens,(NEW ISA WARRENS) are doing great, they have total free range in our garden and have in fact eaten everything edible in my vegetable garden. I think I need to fence it to keep them out! They are laying well now, we are getting four eggs every morning now for the last couple of weeks. We even had a double yolk a couple of days ago! They are lovely birds with such a good temperament, they allow me to pick them up and handle them, and they come running as soon as I open the door. The only time they have bothered my kids is when they were hungry and thought my three-year old had food in the bucket he was carrying to collect the eggs in! They gave him a good chase around the garden before I realised what was going on... but generally they don't worry about the children at all.

My only regret is that I didn't take you up on your offer of more birds - they are so easy to look after, and ten would have been no more work than four! All my neighbours want some hens now, too - and they are asking for more eggs than we can supply! We may be back in touch in the near future looking to expand our flock.

Thanks again for your hospitality, you and Margaret were both so kind to me (and the sandwich and cuppa were much appreciated!)   I would definitely recommend Happy Hen Hoose to my friends.

21:08:08......My chi1dren and I went over to "Happy Hen Hoose" to pick up some hens and expected it to be a quick handover before we were off again, boy were we surprised. We met two lovely people, who really cared about their chickens and give us some fantastic advice  on integrating the new hens with our existing ones. The kids absolutely loved it, especially after looking at some of the funkier looking hens, and were kept busy and interested at all times. They have spoken about nothing else since. We now have 5 lovely new hens, who are looking forward to keeping just as happy as the happy place they came from. A great experience and I will be returning again.

What can I say. Last Friday we picked up four "Hy- Line Layers" from yourselves and we were very impressed by the friendly, beautiful hens. From the day we picked them up the weather has been terrible....snow and gales. Yet on Mon. morn we were delighted to seeour first egg in the nest. By Wed.two eggs.My 8 yr. old daughter Abie is mesmorised with them and loves feeding, petting, holding them.As soon as they see us they come for treats.PERFECT HENS for US FIRST TIME POULTRY KEEPERS...I think we are hooked.Thanks again for your advice and support.

18.04.07    To Gerald and Margaret...A couple of years ago I decided to keep a few hens. After a scan through the small ads, “The Happy Henhoose” caught my eye.

I called ahead and after a thoroughly relaxed and interesting conversation I left with three hens and a cockerel.

Since then Margaret and Gerald have continued to provide excellent on-going advice and my hens remain happy, healthy and prolific layers of delicious eggs.

Just recently I returned to purchase some new hens. I find a visit to them at Potrknockie is not only all about chickens, but a good excuse to while away some time in excellent company.
