Rare Breeds and Traditional

We have mentioned earlier, that we are a contained family business. Contained in the sense, we want to have a “hands-on” approach to our poultry, and to maintain a good, personal relationship with our customers. We don’t have all the space we would like and we are restricted in some ways, to what we can offer, in the range and numbers of poultry that we have bred ourselves. Because of this, we made the decision to concentrate mainly on some of the, “RARE BREEDS”, as listed by Rare Breed Survival Trust, (R.B.S.T.)... (Thanks for permission to use of your listings.)

The” RARE BREED POULTRY” bred by us, is listed by them, under their Categories: “CRITICAL category”, are the following three breeds:

Old English Pheasant Fowl Cockerel

OLD ENGLISH PHEASANT FOWL

An old breed described by some poultry breeders as the Yorkshire Pheasant. In times gone by, it was a very popular choice and is now gaining ground again by many, who appreciate its many qualities. It is a white egg layer of good size eggs. It has excellent qualities for the table, either pure or crossed. DR. J. Batty describes it “As an old an interesting breed worth keeping.”

Marsh Daisy

MARSH DAISY

MARSH DAISY... is a British Breed that originated in “Marshside”, in Lancashire.   This bird is light, tight feathered, and rare, tinted egg layer of around 160 eggs per year. As the name suggests it’s well suited to damp conditions. It is hardy and likes to forage.

The Marsh Daisy is very well suited to free range conditions. Rare bird, but very popular.

Scots Grey

SCOTS GREY

SCOTS GREY.....Once a very popular bird in the North of Scotland. It has been described, like the Scots Dumpy, as one of the old traditional breeds familiar to Scotland. Again like the Scots Dumpy, it comes into the category of a very rare bird. This is an active bird, slim and lengthy in body with an erect carriage. White egg layer. The colouring is described as, steel grey with narrow metallic black markings.

IMPORTANT: Availability Note

To emphasise again the THREE BREEDS, bred by ourselves and mentioned above, are in the“NUMBER ONE CATEGORY”, of endangered species of poultry. Because of this, there is a premium demand for the poultry and the hatching eggs. Availability will depend on many factors, not the least being the cooperation and mood of our own poultry. To prevent disappointment, notice of your needs would benefit us to address your needs. If this is not possible, contact us anyway and we will try all we can to help.
