Due to the increasing range of poultry that we offer, getting all of the details on one page has become a bit tricky. We have elected to split the range up into a series of pages for each specific interest group, (except for our Popular Layers). Hope you don't mind this new layout - it should make it easier to find (and bookmark) what you want:

"HYBRID pol LAYING HENS for FREE RANGE & SMALL GARDEN"

The "NEW ISA WARREN" has been bred and developed as a tough, resilient, layer, which is easy to manage....but it is much, much, more than that.....it is a prolific layer of large, strong shelled, healthy, brown eggs.

The strain is well suited to the wee family garden, or the wide open spaces. An ideal bird for the  large commercial market, or the keen enthusiast, who also has an eye on egg production......and steady all year round profit. 

But also certainly well suited to the person totally new to poultry keeping, or the amateur enthusiast who likes to see, hear & enjoy with the family  a few friendly, hens, clucking and scratching about around the garden.........and supplying all these lovely, big, fresh eggs, daily.

The "NEW ISA WARREN" is certainly a family bird....very calm and absolutely, "child friendly". But be careful if you are new to poultry, and you, or any members of your family have an addictive personality.

Start with three or four of these garden birds and within weeks, you will want more......and more.....and more. Mainly because they will give you so much fun and pleasure.......But also because your egg supply will soon diminish.....as friends, family and neighbours start rushing to your door to buy your fresh eggs!

The demand and popularity of the "New Isa  Warren Strain" continues to grow and grow. And even the biggest supliers cannot meet the demand...........

Although the "Isa Warren" is the newest introduction, its popularity and growing reputation is well founded............

Tom Barron pioneered modern poultry breeding over 100 years ago. Starting his young working life as a cobbler, his interest in poultry, developed into a passion and rapidly into a business. Buying a very small farm....and then a seven acre farm......and then a seventy five acre farm. By 1906 he was the recognised leader in selective breeding of poultry, gaining success in a range of poultry trials. By 1912 following further successes in America and Canada he went on to achieve even further succeses in South Africa and Australia, leading on to a worldwide reputation as a breeder of hardy,quality, poultry. Tom Barron went on to be President and Life Member of the National Poultry Council and founder member of the N.F.U. Headquarters Poultry Committee.

Mainly because of difficulty in finding reliable suppliers we have had to supply a range of hybrid layers. But in each case, as shown by customer comments, we have maintained a high standard of quality, with our layers and in the service we offer.

Bantams

Bantams are in the main are"oor pets"  and the numbers will be kept very restricted also to the ones described.

Rare and Vulnerable Breeds

We've divided these into two pages: Rare Breeds and Traditional and RBST Vulnerable and at Risk - expect to continue to breed the birds difficult to come by, we will be limited, but continue to breed those we fancy.

Some of our breeds will come and go for a variety of reasons. Sorry, expect changes.  Achieving the rare breeds as listed in R.B.S. T. has always been our ultimate aim and as I think I mentioned previously, it has been a long, costly and rocky road. What we sometimes lack in expertise we believe we more than make up in hard work, stickability, determination and enthusiasm. I know I have said this before, but it may be worth repeating.
 
Our space (not through our choice) is limited and if we were really sensible, we would cut right back on the range and  numbers. But we are very enthusiastic about ALL our birds and so we continue , at this time anyway, to hold on to the large variety, but keep the specific breeding stock numbers at a manageable level, with emphasis on our comfort level  and  comfort, health and safety of our birds.

The consequence of this means of course, we can basically offer a wide choice, but numbers will be restrictive. 

Rather than “waffle” any more, we would simply ask you to bear the situation in mind if you decide to contact us regarding hatching eggs of our rare breed poultry.
