Feed & Drink ContainersDo you need to use special ones? No nothing special…..but feeders/drinkers made for the job. Plastic ones are really inexpensive, and easy to clean, and will, in even the short term, mean healthier birds and save you money by cheaper feed bills. Two big buckets, or basins, or any old plastic containers will not do, (except in an emergency) False economy….wasteful and messy. What size should they be? You have to make a judgement here, between what is convenient to you...and what is suitable for your birds. And this means Big Containers? It might be, depending on the number of birds. But your hens will not appreciate feed going "mouldy" and "dirty water" that is not being refreshed/refilled regularly. And dirty water and mouldy feed...health issues? Yes, without a doubt. So, basically the right container and numbers for the job? If it only a few garden hens (maybe up to six), a drinker and a feeder filled daily is fine. Introducing new birds....more feeders and drinkers? Yes....even if it is only," temporary/make do" containers, or your new hens, (introduced at night) may be seen as a threat......and then disaster. ....link to..... FAQ......poultry housing.
